Her mother, a quiet human herbalist from a distant village, had wandered into the wilds of Florana’s Overgrowth seeking rare healing flowers… and found something else entirely: a wandering orc warrior, weary from battle, wild but kind in a way few had ever seen.
Their love was brief but real. Her father vanished not long after Nargolyse Thoryik was born—no trace, no farewell, only rumors of conflict in the deeper woods. Her mother never spoke ill of him, only said that the forest sometimes takes as easily as it gives. Determined to give her daughter a normal life, her mother raised Nelyse with gentle manners, homemade crafts, and lullabies sung by firelight. But nature would not be tamed—not in the Overgrowth, and not in Nelyse. Her orc blood burned, her fists clenched instinctively, and sometimes trees cracked when she screamed. To channel that power, her mother introduced her to an old monk who lived alone in a vine-wrapped shrine nearby. He taught Nelyse discipline—but not to control her chaos, only to understand it. "Stillness," he once said, "is not the absence of chaos. It's the choice to dance with it."
Now older (19-20), Nelyse wanders aimlessly looking for her mother, staff in hand and a satchel full of paints slung over her shoulder. She finds serenity in brushstrokes and battle alike, crafting strange masks from bark and bone, painting murals in abandoned ruins. She's not here to save the world, nor to destroy it. She simply is—drifting like pollen on the wind, seeking beauty in the strange, the broken, and the wild.
